Born and raised on the historic Twee Jonge Gezellen Wine Estate in Tulbagh, Luke is proud of his roots, and firmly believes that the natural environment plays a vital part in the creation of any event.
Luke showed his first entrepreneurial flair to the world in 2005, at the young age of 19 years, when he created the ‘Starry Starry Night Dinners’. Due to public demand there was soon a waiting list of over 300 people. Luke’s father and brother, Nicky and Matthew Krone, are award winning makers of Méthode Cap Classique Bubbly, and to help assist them in marketing their product, Luke created these spectacular evenings for visitors. Participants would arrive for MCC bubbly & canapés at sunset, followed by a three course dinner and then join the pickers later in the evening on the ‘starlight express’, the farm tractor loaded with grape bins, to see this unique experience. These evenings were for entertainment and education purposes. As Luke’s father, Nicky Krone was the first to introduce night harvesting in the 1980’s, Luke felt it was important to highlight the quality aspect of picking the grapes at night.
In November 2013 Luke was invested by the Commanderie de Bordeaux en Afrique du Sud. This honour was bestowed on him for his contribution to the wine industry, and for bringing wine to a new generation of wine lovers, and potential wine lovers, through his festivals. Luke’s grandfather, the late Nicolas Charles Krone was the first South African to receive this honour in France in 1971, with Luke following in his family’s footsteps of ever-unfolding creativity & innovation.
Luke Krone’s Summer Elegance Festival has become a special event in the South African events calendar. A celebration of fashion, food & fantasy. Guests fly in from all over the world to attend this unique and enthralling event.
